MacWireless Power over Ethernet (PoE) allows you to mount MacWireless Access Point or wireless router where there is no nearby electrical power outlet. A pair of adapters converts a normal ethernet cable into a data plus power cable - that's data and electricity in one single cable. This allows you to position the Access Point for optimal wireless coverage - up to 328 feet away from the electrical outlet that powers it.
This kit is great for mounting the Access Point on a ceiling, a location which provides excellent wireless reception. With this kit you won't need to run an electrical cable on the ceiling, which can prove both awkward and unsightly, as the ethernet cable alone will provide the data connection and the power!

Where you position your Access Point will define the limits of your wireless network. For the best coverage, you want your base station mounted high and in a central location -- and odds are there are no electric outlets there!
How do you solve the problem? You use the Ethernet cable itself to power the AirPort base station -- with the MacWireless PoE kit!
The only additional items you will need are a Base Station / Access Point and a long cat-5 or cat-5e Ethernet cable.The kit makes use of otherwise unused wires in your Ethernet cable and has no effect on data integrity. If you've ever had a dropped connection or found yourself just outside of your AirPort coverage area, this is a great solution!

Q: Which PoE kit should I choose?
A: If your base station does not have PoE built in, and you do not have a PoE switch, then you'll need a complete PoE kit.
If you'd like to use PoE with several base stations, consider purchasing a PoE Switch and one splitter for each base station. If you already have a PoE enabled switch, then you only need a splitter.
If you have a base station that has built-in PoE, such as the MacWireless High Power 11g Wireless Access Point, then you should only purchase an injector.
Q: What is the difference between short and long range PoE?
A: The difference is in the maximum length of the Ethernet cable connecting the injector and the splitter. This length determines how far away your base station can be from the nearest electrical outlet. Our short range kit has a 60 m (200 ft) maximum, while our long range kit has a 100 m (328 ft) maximum.
